Waterfall tour
Overview
Waterfalls are a beautiful blessing by nature and they generally are created in the upper parts of rivers where the water runs over different bands of rock. The water erodes soft rock faster than hard rock and that creates the waterfall. Over time this process repeats and the waterfall gets created upstream. Since Costa Rica has elevated mountains with many different river systems this process has created many amazing waterfalls in Costa Rica. Join us to explore one of the many unique waterfalls in Costa Rica on a Waterfall tour!
One of the most famous waterfalls in Costa Rica is in the cozy mountain town of La Fortuna. La Fortuna is known for being the town at the foot of the majestic volcano Arenal. While in La Fortuna you can choose to go by transportation or horseback riding to the waterfall. If you choose the transportation you will enter the waterfall by foot. It's a pretty demanding walk down the stairs to the waterfall and if you prefer not to do the walk you can stay at the top and watch the 229 feet (70 m) waterfall drop into the lagoon from the view point. If you choose to do the walk you will come down to a beautiful rainforest valley where the lagoon converges with a crystal-clear river. You can swim in the river and feel the fresh and chilly river water on your skin.
If you are staying in the surfer’s paradise of Santa Teresa you can join a Waterfall tour and go to the sleepy beach town of Montezuma and visit the beautiful waterfall here. To get to the waterfall you will get to make a hike over rocks and in the river to get to the top. This can be exhausting so it’s good if you are in good health. While at the top you can get some amazing photos and have a swim in the fresh water.
Another waterfall to explore is the waterfall of Bagaces outside Liberia in the province of Guanacaste. This province is known for its beautiful beaches and great climate for sunbathing. If you´re staying in Flamingo, Tamarindo, or Conchal you are close to Bagaces to do a Waterfall tour over the day.
