Costa Rica is a beautiful country with great natural diversity. While visiting this gem of a country you will be able to discover beaches, mountains, volcanoes, rainforests, and a lot more that offers amazing scenery. One of the best ways to discover Costa Rica is by horseback riding.

Still today in Costa Rica some Costa Ricans, or Ticos as they like to call themselves, use horses as their main form of transportation in the countryside. Horses are important both as transportation but also in farming, which is a big industry in Costa Rica. Horses are also vital to Costa Rican culture as they are celebrated every year with a Tope, a parade of horses and show of horsemanship. These topes take place at the Fiestas Patronales, which are regional celebrations of history and culture.

Arenal is a great place for riding horses. You can choose to go riding in the beautiful rainforest of La Fortuna close to the volcano Arenal and make a stop at the amazing waterfall that drops 229 feet (70 m). During this tour you will not only get to experience the rainforest and waterfall but you´ll also have the chance to see several birds and monkeys in the trees while our four-footed friends take us on the trail.

Another great horseback riding adventure is Buenavista tour at the volcano Rinco de la Vieja in the province of Guanacaste. This trail on the side of the volcano will take us through a beautiful forest before arriving at the hot springs at the end of the trail. Here we’ll get the opportunity to do a mud bath and steam sauna before we jump in the natural and mineral hot springs heated by the volcano. This exciting tour also includes ziplining, natural water slide, and lunch.
