Canopy Zip-Line

Costa Rica is world-famous for its natural diversity, and a great way to discover this is up in the canopy. A U.S. biologist named Donald Perry invented the canopy tour in Sarapiqui in 1979. He put up zip-lines between the trees to be able to travel easier and get to know the animals and trees in their natural environment. In 1997 Canadian entrepreneur Darren Hreniuk patented the technique and made it public in Monteverde. Today you´ll find zip-line (canopy) tours all over Costa Rica.

The zip-lines are connected between high platforms and you get connected to proper climbing gear and sit comfortably in harnesses and double safety locks as you fly on the lines. You decide your speed yourself as you can constantly brake to control your speed. If you for some reason don´t want to go alone on the zip-line, you can get a “taxi” or a tandem. A guide will connect with you on the line and do the braking for you.

If you are visiting the province of Guanacaste in the northwest of Costa Rica and want to experience as much as possible during your stay, Diamante Eco Adventure Park is a great option for you and your family and friends. The park offers an adrenaline-fueled zip-line experience and it’s Costa Rica’s only ocean-view dual zip-line so you can share this cool experience with your friends and family. The zip-line has a mile-long Superman line with an ocean view, a 30-foot free-fall quick jump, and a hanging bridge over crocodiles.

Monteverde has 2,500 different plants and trees to be discovered. With a little bit of luck, you’ll also get to see the world’s most beautiful bird, the Quetzal, that only lives in a few places around the world, and the Monteverde rainforest is one of them. You can enjoy a zip-line experience at Selvatura, which is one of the longest canopies in the country with its 15 wires (lines) and 18 platforms. Everyone can go zip-lining, old and young.

Another exciting way to discover the cloud forest at Sky Tram Monteverde is by going on a zip-line tour at the park's Sky Trek. This is an adrenaline-fueled activity as you whiz between the platforms on the strong wires. You fly safely over the treetops and have a great adventure and great views. To get to the beginning of the course, you travel up with the open-air gondola, and from there you get on your lines and start travelling down the mountain. The cables stretch from mountain to mountain, between canyons, into the forest, and sometimes through the clouds.

Another exciting place to zip-line is Volcano Rincon de la Vieja. Here we will get to experience 12 platforms with 7 cables that are between 295 feet (90 m) and 1,395 feet (425 m) long at heights between 164 feet (50 m) and 492 feet (150 m). This is an adrenaline-filled activity!
