Hanging bridges
Overview
Costa Rica is world-famous for its amazing diversity in nature and wildlife and many travelers from around the world come to visit this absolute gem. More than 5% of all the world’s species are found here and more than 25% of the country is protected as national parks. There are four mountain ranges in Costa Rica; Talamanca, the oldest, holds Mount Chirripó. The Central Volcanic Range includes the volcanoes Turrialba, Barva, Irazu, and Poas. The Tilarán Range reaches 5000 ft (1700 m) where the Monteverde Cloud Forest is, and then finally the Guanacaste Range holds the Volcan Arenal, Rincon de la Vieja and Miravalles. The latter is used to generate geothermal energy.
The factors of high altitude, beautiful mountain ranges and rainforest create magical scenery, and a great way to explore it is by walking on suspension bridges, or hanging bridges as they are called in Costa Rica.
Monteverde is a great location to go and experience the hanging bridges. This lush rainforest is located at 4,500 ft (1372) m above sea level and is famous for its many different species of plants and flowers. There are more than 2,500 plant species in Monteverde, and out of these more than 500 consist of orchids. We offer you a full-day tour where you can decide for yourself what parts you want to participate in. The hike on the suspension bridges with our professional bilingual guide lasts for about 1.5-2 hours and we get the opportunity to see all of these beautiful trees and flowers. If we are lucky we can spot rare birds such as the magnificent Quetzal. When we are done with our walk we can choose to do ziplining on some of the best cables in the country, visit the reptile and amphibian exhibition, the butterfly garden, the hummingbird garden, and finally the sloth sanctuary. This is a full day of excitement and a memory for life!
Another exciting place to walk on hanging bridges is in Volcano Arenal. This volcano is the most famous one in Costa Rica and this tour is a beautiful hike on trails and on suspension bridges close to the volcano. Our professional bilingual guide will take us hiking while showing and explaining the rich flora and fauna of the area. While enjoying our tour we will also have some stunning views of the volcano while we are up among the treetops.
