Itinerary
Day 1
Welcome to Costa Rica! When landed in San Jose, you will be picked up by a private transport outside the airport and driven to your hotel in San Jose, Barcelo Palacio. After you have checked in, you can enjoy a tropical drink in the hotel bar, swim in the pool, have dinner in one of the hotel's restaurants or just enjoy the comfortable beds in the room.
Day 2
You will be picked up early in the morning at around 06:00, to go to Tortuguero. On the way you'll pass by beautiful nature and lots of banana plantations The last part of the transport will be by boat for about 60 minutes on the river delta until you arrive at the hotel. After check-in and lunch at the lodge, you'll make your first excursion.
Day 3
This day starts early and you'll join your guide to go on a river boat trip where you can see a large number of animals such as crocodiles, monkeys, iguanas, many different species of birds and with a little luck, even sloths. After your exciting river boat trip, you can relax for a while and enjoy your lunch. After lunch, you'll go again with your guide on a rainforest hike to see more nature and animals.
Day 4
After breakfast, you'll check out and begin your journey towards La Fortuna and the Arenal volcano. The transport itself will show you very beautiful scenery and if you are lucky you will see more wildlife before entering the town of La Fortuna with the majestic Arenal volcano looming as a stunning backdrop. You arrive in the afternoon and if you are interested, you can also book a night hike or just enjoy your evening in the fantastic hot springs.
Day 5
Good morning from Arenal, you are hoping for blue skies so you can see the top of the majestic volcano. This day is filled with adventure and you start by horse back riding to the beautiful La Fortuna waterfall. If you are afraid of horses or just don't want to ride, there are transport options you can choose instead. Before you slowly go back, you can cool off and swim in the lagoon or just enjoy the view. After a break and lunch, which you eat on your own, you meet again and go on a guided hike around the volcano.
Day 6
Today you leave beautiful La Fortuna to continue your adventure towards Monteverde and its lush cloud rainforest. You go by minivan to Lake Arenal, where you get on your boat that takes you across the lake, where you are picked up by another minivan. After you have checked into the hotel, you have the afternoon to explore the beautiful village of Santa Elena, one of the hiking trails in the rainforest or you can book a coffee and chocolate tour.
Day 7
Another great day of adventure in Monteverde's mighty cloud rainforest. This guided day will start with a walk on the suspension bridges high above land and forest. On this hike you get to go through the forest and see many of the 2,500 plant species. You will also visit a butterfly garden and a reserve for sloths where they have been rescued and cared for. After an included lunch, it's time to zip through the forest as you ride the zipline between the different plateaus high up in the trees. The evening is open to discover one of Santa Elena's many fantastic restaurants.
Day 8
Today after breakfast it is time to go on to new adventures and the paradise beach in Tamarindo. You will travel through fantastic nature to the Pacific side where you will live right on the beautiful beach within walking distance to restaurants, shops and all the adventures that Tamarindo has to offer. Tamarindo is known for its beautiful sunsets and many beach restaurants that fill up with people who want to enjoy the beautiful spectacle that the sunset creates as the sun sinks into the horizon.
Day 9-14
These days are for enjoying and relaxing on the beautiful beach of Tamarindo. If you are feeling more adventurous and want to explore more of the fantastic nature and wildlife, we recommend a number of excursions. You can take a sunset sailing, diving or snorkeling excursion to Las Catalina Islands or if you like fishing, Costa Rica has world-class sport fishing!
Day 15
The day begins with a final Costa Rican breakfast on the beach. Your check-out will depend on your flight home and we will arrange your transport so that you have plenty of time to get to the airport. This will be goodbye for this time but you are always warmly welcome back to Costa Rica!
