Itinerary
Day 1
Welcome to Costa Rica! When you have landed and exited the airport, a private transport will be waiting for you to drive you to your hotel, Hotel Barcelo Palacio in San José. Once you've checked in, you can enjoy a good dinner at one of the hotel's restaurants, have a cold drink at the bar or take a refreshing dip in the pool.
Day 2
You will be picked up early in the morning at around 06:00 and get ready for adventure already at dawn. The transport will be in a modern tourist bus and we will stop for breakfast at about 8:30 and on the way to Tortuguero we will pass beautiful nature and many banana plantations. The last part of the transport will be by boat for about 45 minutes on the river delta until we arrive at the hotel. After checking in at the lodge, we make our first excursion, which is a visit to the town of Tortuguero where we get to interact with the locals and visit the Caribbean Sea.
Day 3
This day starts early and we join our guide to go on a river boat trip where we can see a large number of animals such as crocodiles, monkeys, iguanas, many different species of birds, and with a little luck, sloths too. After our exciting river boat trip, we get to relax for a while and enjoy our lunch. After lunch we go again with our guide and go on a rainforest hike to see more nature and animals.
Day 4
After breakfast, we check out and begin our journey towards La Fortuna and the Arenal volcano. This transport itself will show us a lot of beautiful scenery and if we are lucky we will see more wildlife before entering the town of La Fortuna and seeing the majestic volcano looming as a stunning backdrop. We arrive in the afternoon and if you are interested, you can also book a night hike or just enjoy your evening.
Day 5
Good morning from Arenal, we are hoping for blue skies so we can see the top of the majestic volcano. This day is filled with adventure and you start by riding to the beautiful La Fortuna waterfall. If you are afraid of horses or just don't want to ride, there are transport options you can choose instead. Before we slowly go back, you can cool off and swim in the lagoon or just enjoy the view. After a break and lunch, which you eat on your own, we meet again and go on a guided hike around the volcano. After the hike, visit the hot springs where we enjoy the natural mineral hot springs, where we can relax before having dinner together.
Day 6
Today we leave beautiful La Fortuna to continue our adventure towards Monteverde and its lush cloud forest. We go by jeep or minivan/bus to Lake Arenal where we get on our boat that takes us across the lake where we are picked up by another jeep or minivan/bus. After we check into the hotel, we have the afternoon to explore the cute town of Santa Elena or you can book a coffee and chocolate tour.
Day 7
Another great day of adventure in Monteverde's mighty cloud rainforest. This guided day will start with a walk on the suspension bridges high above land and forest. On this hike we get to go through and see many of the 2,500 plant species in the forest. We will also visit a butterfly garden, and a reserve for sloths where they have been rescued and cared for. After an included lunch, it's time to zip through the forest as you zipline between the different plateaus high up in the trees. The evening is open to discover one of Santa Elena's many fantastic restaurants.
Day 8
Today after breakfast it is time to go on to new adventures and paradise beach in Flamingo. We will travel through fantastic nature to the Pacific side where you will live right on the beautiful beach within walking distance to restaurants, shops and the newly built marina. Flamingo has one of the most beautiful sunsets and many people gather on the beach to enjoy the fantastic colors that the sun leaves behind.
Day 9-14
These days are for enjoying and relaxing on the beautiful beach of Flamingo. If you're feeling more adventurous and want to explore more of the amazing nature and wildlife, we recommend taking a sunset sail, dive or snorkel excursion to the Las Catalinas Islands or if you like fishing, Costa Rica has world-class sport fishing.
Day 15
This day of our itinerary begins with a final Costa Rican breakfast with its black gold - coffee. Your check-out will depend on your flight home and we will arrange your transport so that you have plenty of time to get to the airport. This will be goodbye for this time but you are always warmly welcome back to Costa Rica!
