Canyoning & Waterfall Rappelling
Overview
Costa Rica’s different mountain ranges have created some astonishing waterfalls that are well worth a visit. There are regular waterfall tours to explore them but a lot more exciting way to enjoy them is by joining a Canyoning and Waterfall rappelling tour! These tours are created in symbiosis with the waterfalls and it's great fun. The activity itself is simple. You suit up in a harness and start descending the waterfall and enjoy the excitement. It’s a great activity to indulge as it includes hiking, climbing, and rappelling.
Canyoning and Waterfall rappelling tours are found in a few different places around the country. One great spot for this activity is just outside Costa Rica’s capital San Jose close to the mountain town of Grecia. Here at Los Chorros we will get the opportunity to rappel down 180 feet to the cool pool below us.
Another great place for rappelling is in the cozy mountain town of La Fortuna at the foot of the majestic volcano Arenal. Here we’ll get the chance to go on a dirt road to get to our destination where we get to rappel two huge waterfalls, the first one of 150 ft and the second one is crazy big at 210 ft!!
Another favorite is by the volcano Rincon de la Vieja in the northwest of Costa Rica in the province of Guanacaste. This tour includes a 45-minute horseback riding to the Victoria waterfall where we get to rappel and enjoy a swim in the cool lagoon.
If you are travelling down further south from Guanacaste you will soon be in the Central Pacific of Costa Rica. From beautiful Manuel Antonio you can choose to join a tour to go rappelling into the Indian Falls that is 90 ft tall. Then prepare yourself for a free-fall jump from 45 ft into the natural pool that awaits you down below!
The Osa Peninsula is located in the southwest of Costa Rica and from here you will have the opportunity to join a rappelling tour that will take you to four different waterfalls as each waterfall grows bigger until we reach our final destination and test where we will face a 70 ft drop cascade.
