Overview
Established in 1972, the Manuel Antonio National Park is Costa Rica’s smallest national park, with only 683 hectares of forest. Dubbed as one of the most beautiful and bio-diverse areas in the world, the park gives you the best possible opportunity to experience the true Costa Rican wild in a short time. Manuel Antonio National Park features a combination of rain forest, beaches, and coral reefs, the forest line-ed beaches being some of the most beautiful beaches in the country.
Including the 2 and 3 fingered sloths, all three types of monkeys (howlers, white faced and squirrel), deer, toucans, iguanas, millions of colorful little crabs, many kinds of lizards including green spiny lizards and much more, live in the Manuel Antonio National Park. Some of the highlighted bird life include Black-throated Trogons, woodcreepers, Chestnut-Mandibled Toucans, and aracaris, while coatimundis, peccaries and armadillos are a common sight around the park.
There are many trails which will take you through the pristine jungle, where you can immerse yourself in the sights and sound of this serene national park. The trail the goes around Punta Catedral gives you some of the best views of the surrounding area and the sea beyond.
On the Manuel Antonio National Park Guided Tour, the hike will take you through 1,500 meters of rainforest, following easy-access trails for about 2.5 to 3 hours. An experienced and bilingual naturalist interpreter, certified by the Costa Rican Tourism Board will accompany you through the tour. Equipped with a high-powered spotting scope, the guide will help you locate the vast variety of flora and fauna in their natural habitat, and also allow you to use their telescope to take pictures of the animals you’ll encounter during this incredible nature adventure up close. The Manuel Antonio National Park is one of a few parks that consist of both primary and secondary rainforests as well as several attractive beaches. At various points within the park, trails branch off leading to four separate beaches: the Espadilla Sur, the Manuel Antonio, the Escondido and the Playita. At these beaches, Guests can enjoy swimming, snorkeling and surfing.
