No Visa is required to go to Costa Rica on vacation if you are a U.S. or Canadian national and are planning to stay less than 90 days. You do need a valid passport and a valid return ticket within 90 days of your departure.

Costa Rica has a tropical climate and two seasons, the dry season and the green season. The dry season is generally between December and April with very low to no rainfall, and the green season is between May and November when rainfall occurs. The temperatures are similar year-round. The temperatures vary between 86-95 degrees Fahrenheit (30-35 Celsius) daytime at sea level and 77-83 degrees Fahrenheit (25-28 Celisus) at night time. The mountain temperatures differ between 68-86 degrees Fahrenheit (20-30 Celsius) daytime and between 57-72 degrees Fahrenheit (14-22 Celsius) at night time depending on where you are in the country.

For every order you place in a bar or restaurant in Costa Rica the price includes a 10% service charge that is the tip. You are not expected to tip more than this, but if you are more than satisfied more tips are always welcome. If you participate in any organized tour it’s customary to tip the guide and the driver a few U.S. dollars and up each, depending on the satisfaction at the end of the tour.
Costa Rica has many beautiful beaches on both coastlines and beach life is a big part of Costa Rican culture. Please be aware that many beaches have strong currents. Make sure before you enter the ocean on a new beach for the first time that you talk with lifeguards or watch the flag system so it’s safe to take a swim.
If you are sensitive to mosquito bites we recommend that you bring and use bug spray. If you are not able to bring your own bug spray we recommend the bug spray OFF, which is strong and keeps the insects away.
This differs depending on what you are ordering and in what restaurant just like in your native country. The most economical way to eat in Costa Rica is to eat traditional Costa Rican food, which often consists of any of the following: rice, beans, potatoes, vegetables, salads, fish, seafood, beef, chicken. Eating traditional you can get a breakfast and lunch from about 5 USD per meal and a dinner from 10 USD. If you choose to eat at an international restaurant, a meal starts from about 12-14 USD and you can get a tenderloin steak from about 20-25 USD. Local beer is cheap and starts from about 2 USD a bottle at a restaurant and a glass of imported wine starts from about 6 USD.
Yes, you can and you can feel safe doing it. The meter is called “Maria” and make sure it’s turned on when you start your trip. All official taxis are red and have a taxi light on top of them. Uber is available in the capital San Jose and at some tourist destinations.
Costa Rica has a tropical climate so pack light and comfortable clothing for endless summer weather. Please be aware that if you are travelling to mountains the temperature gets lower the more elevated you get. Then please pack comfortable shoes, trousers, and long-sleeved shirts.
