Volcano Rincón de la Vieja Adventure Day
Overview
Costa Rica is a country with amazing nature and wildlife. The small country has more than 200 volcanic formations that are excellent places to visit and discover. Volcano Rincon de la Vieja is one of the most famous volcanoes in the country and is located close to Liberia, the capital of the province of Guanacaste. Guanacaste is a popular tourist destination for people from all over the world who want to visit this region because of its great climate and beautiful beaches.
A great way to explore Volcano Rincon de la Vieja is by joining a full day tour to Buena Vista Adventure Center. The entrance to this beautiful place is close to the entrance to Rincon de la Vieja National Park. The transportation up to the entrance it’s a beauty itself as we climb the road up to 6,286 feet (1,916 m). You will feel the chillier winds touch your skin as you get out of your minivan to start this exciting day.
The tour starts off with us getting up on our horses to do horseback riding for about 2 miles (3 km) through this beautiful dry forest. Our final destination for this horseback riding is the thermal hot springs. As we arrive at the hot springs our professional guide will first take us to the steam sauna that is heated by the volcano. We sit here and let our pores open and break out a sweat. When we come out of the sauna we get to do an exciting mud bath with mud from the volcano. This treatment supposedly makes us 15 years younger!! When we are finished with our mud bath we will get a relaxing break where we can choose from the 5 different thermal hot springs. While relaxing here we can also order a couple of tropical drinks from the sunset cocktail bar.
Next stop is the 1395 feet (425 m) long water slide. It’s been built right on the sloping mountain and the water is natural rain water from the volcano that sends you with the speed of your preference. This is a great fun experience! After we’ve dried up and changed clothes we get served a delicious buffet made of typical Costa Rican dishes. When we’ve finished our cup of genuine Costa Rican coffee it's time for our next adventure.
Our final adventure of our tour to Volcano Rincon de la Vieja is the zipline, or canopy as it’s called in Costa Rica. Here we will get to experience 12 platforms with 7 cables that are between 295 feet (90 m) and 1,395 feet (425 m) long at heights between 164 feet (50 m) and 492 feet (150 m). This is an adrenaline-filled activity! This concludes our day as we drive back to our hotels through the interesting dry forest.
